Florida Resident Infected with "Brain-Eating" Amoeba through Tap Water, Officials Say

Health officials in Charlotte County, Florida, have reported that a person has been infected with a rare single-celled organism called Naegleria fowleri, also known as the "brain-eating" amoeba. The amoeba destroys brain tissue and is usually fatal, with a 97% mortality rate. After climbing Oklahoma's tallest building, an anti-abortion activist was arrested

Last month, Maison Des Champs climbed at least two more skyscrapers in other cities.

According to authorities, an anti-abortion activist who has scaled buildings in at least two other cities climbed Oklahoma's tallest building Tuesday morning before being apprehended.

During a press conference, Oklahoma City police said they have no idea why Maison Des Champs climbed the Devon Tower, a 50-story skyscraper in the heart of the city.

Des Champs, on the other hand, is said to have climbed Manhattan's New York Times building and San Francisco's tallest building, the 61-story Salesforce Tower, last month.

The man was streaming the stunt on Instagram, according to NBC affiliate KFOR in Oklahoma City, and claimed it was in protest of abortion. Those details have not been confirmed by officials.

According to the news station, one man on the ground fled from officers while another attempted to scale the structure.

Des Champs was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and disorderly conduct on Tuesday, according to police. The charge was later reduced to trespassing only.

According to police, the incident began around 8:40 a.m. local time.

"We are aware of a person climbing the Devon Tower in the city. Please avoid the area; our officers have closed nearby streets as a precaution "In a tweet sent out Tuesday morning, the Oklahoma City Police Department confirmed the incident.

About an hour later, a police tweet stated, "Individual is in custody at top of building."

On Tuesday morning, winds in Oklahoma City gusted to at least 22 mph, with gusts even higher at the top of the building.
